Growing the wotagei community across North America.
What Is Wotagei?
Wotagei (Japanese: ヲタ芸), also written オタ芸 (otagei), is a performance art rooted in audience participation for Japanese idol and anime music performances. It started as a way to cheer for performers, but today wotagei has evolved into its own performance art, sport, and form of entertainment.
It is entertainment when performers light up the stage. It is a sport in wotagei battles where skill and stamina are on full display. It is art when carefully choreographed, filmed with dynamic angles, and edited into something creative.
From USA to the World Stage
This summer, we hosted the first Japan-US collaborative international Wotagei World Cup event, bringing the US wotagei community onto the international stage. The winner will represent the US at the World Finals in Japan in 2027.
